National Private Pilots License (NPPL)

The NPPL requires a minimum of 32 hours of training, of which 10 hours are spent solo. This therefore significantly reduces the cost of achieving a pilot’s licence within the UK. Please note however, that 32 hours is only a minimum number of hours, and some students may take more than this before they are ready for a test.

The second major advantage of the NPPL is that the medical requirements are reduced to those equivalent to an HGV drivers medical. Therefore, if you find it is not possible to get a CAA medical for the grant of a JAR-PPL, then the NPPL will be for you.

It is not all good news, however. The NPPL is valid in the UK only and you cannot add any extra ratings or qualifications to the license, meaning you will be restricted to flying in good weather, by day.
